Artwork Wednesday

Artwork Wednesday: Sacrifice, Assassin’s Creed, Slack Bay, X-Men + more!

This week we’ve got a hefty Artwork Wednesday to make up for the lack of Artwork Wednesdays! A big ol’ bunch of posters ranging from heroes to animation to horror to gaming. Starting with one of my favourite posters I’ve seen this year so far.

1. X-Men: Apocalypse
X-Men: Apocalypse

© 20th Century Fox

Just. so. beautiful. Just amazing. Gorgeous. Ugh.

2. Sacrifice
Sacrifice

© IFC Midnight

I’m not 100% all in with this poster, but, strangely, it reminds me of a photography project I did at uni…

3. The Family Fang
The Family Fang

© Starz Digital Media

The DIY style is great full stop, but of course this style suits The Family Fang perfectly!

4. Slack Bay
Slack Bay

© Memento Films

Because I know nothing about this film, this poster is quite funny 😀 I love the colour palette, the font, the composition, lovely!

5. Assassin’s Creed
Assassin's Creed

© 20th Century Fox

Why was I surprised when I scrolled down to see that everything was upside-down. Ahhh I love it. You can almost see and feel the movement as Fassbender flies overhead.

6. Finding Dory

Ahaha 😀 I just, this is just great.

Ahh how I’ve missed Artwork Wednesday. My apologies for not posting one for a while, look forward to the next one! 🙂

Trailer Tuesday

Trailer Tuesday vol. 35: Welcome to Happiness, Assassin’s Creed, Don’t Breathe + more!

I think this week’s Trailer Tuesday is a really nice one. There’s not much to be sniffed at, and there’s a whole bunch of promising-looking films! Plus, this volume features a TT first – a shoutout to an end card! Good job everyone.

1. Nerve
When it is released? 16th Sep 2016 (UK), 27th Jul 2016 (USA)
What is it about? A high school senior finds herself immersed in an online game of truth or dare, where her every move starts to become manipulated by an anonymous community of “watchers.”
Immediate thoughts? I might be bias because I’m loving Emma Roberts right now, but I love how this builds.

2. Inferno

What is it about? When Robert Langdon wakes up in an Italian hospital with amnesia, he teams up with Dr. Sienna Brooks, and together they must race across Europe against the clock to foil a deadly global plot.

6. Assassin’s Creed
When it is released? 26th Dec 2016 (UK), 21st Dec 2016 (USA)
What is it about? When Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) explores the memories of his ancestor Aguilar and gains the skills of a Master Assassin, he discovers he is a descendant of the secret Assassins society.
Immediate thoughts? This actually looks rather good. I don’t think they are going to butcher it!

7. The BFG
When it is released? 22nd Jul 2016 (UK), 1st Jul 2016 (USA)
What is it about? A girl named Sophie encounters the Big Friendly Giant who, despite his intimidating appearance, turns out to be a kindhearted soul who is considered an outcast by the other giants because unlike his peers refuses to eat boys and girls.

This Trailer Tuesday week is split half and half, more or less: The first half boasts some big names, such as Now You See Me 2 and the questionable Bridget Jones’s Baby. Trailer Tuesday vol. 10: Double digits, baby!

Woop woop! It’s the 10th Trailer Tuesday! *throws party streamer*

1. Steve Jobs
When it is released? 13th Nov 2015 (UK), 23rd Oct 2015 (USA)
Who is distributing it? Universal (UK and USA)
What is it about? The true story of the life of visionary Apple CEO Steve Jobs.
Who is in it? Michael Fassbender, Kate Winslet, Seth Rogen
Where did I find it? www.traileraddict.com/steve-jobs/feature-trailer
What did I think? Although it’s not the first trailer I’ve seen of Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs, it is the first one I’ve actually been interested in. I liked the editing, specifically the text cursor shape closing in on the image, which felt rather claustrophobic and gives a small idea of the pressure on the man himself, and therefore how the film will play out.

2. Lolo
When it is released? 28th Oct 2015 (France)
Who is distributing it? Mars Distribution (France)
What is it about? Violette, a 40-year old workaholic with a career in the fashion industry falls for a provincial computer geek, Jean-Rene, while on a spa retreat with her best friend.
Who is in it? Dany Boon, Vincent Lacoste, Julie Delpy
Where did I find it? www.traileraddict.com/lolo/trailer
What did I think? What can I say? There’s just something about Lolo. It’s lighthearted, explores a complicated triangular relationship, and seems like an overall uplifting watch.

3. Difret
When it is released? Lots of different days at different festivals!
Who is distributing it? Unknown
What is it about? Three hours outside of Addis Ababa, a bright 14-year-old girl is on her way home from school when men on horses swoop in and kidnap her. The brave Hirut grabs a rifle and tries to escape, but ends up shooting her would-be husband. In her village, the practice of abduction into marriage is common and one of Ethiopia’s oldest traditions. Meaza Ashenafi, an empowered and tenacious young lawyer, arrives from the city to represent Hirut and argue that she acted in self-defense. Meaza boldly embarks on a collision course between enforcing civil authority and abiding by customary law, risking the continuing work of her women’s legal-aid practice to save Hirut’s life.
Who is in it? Meron Getnet, Abel Abebe, Tizita Hagere
Where did I find it? www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi840807193

Who is in it? Elon Musk, Louie Psihoyos, Joel Sartore
Where did I find it? www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi4045320985
What did I think? Just as important as Difret. We need to educate the world before anything will be done to save it.

5. The Big Short
When it is released? 25th Dec 2015 (USA)
Who is distributing it? Paramount Pictures (USA)
What is it about? The men who made millions from a global economic meltdown.

Where did I find it? www.comingsoon.net/movies/trailers/615549-the-big-short-trailer
What did I think? What a bunch of actors! As in… ‘that’s quite some cast list’, not ‘I can totally tell they’re acting’… you know what I mean!

6. The Walk
When it is released? 9th Oct 2015 (UK and USA)
Who is distributing it? TriStar Pictures (Worldwide), Sony Pictures (USA)
What is it about? The story of French high-wire artist Philippe Petit’s attempt to cross the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in 1974.
Who is in it? Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ben Kingsley, Charlotte Le Bon
Where did I find it? www.comingsoon.net/movies/trailers/615239-official-imax-the-walk-trailer-will-take-your-breath-away#/slide/1
What did I think? I liked this trailer until the end. They give too much away at the end in my opinion. Although it would probably be cliche to stop at the first step onto the wire otherwise… Anyway, it looks interesting if not just for Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s accent!

Thank you for joining me this week! Check back next Tuesday if you enjoyed it 🙂

The Lobster
Artwork Wednesday

Artwork Wednesday: Space, the final frontier

Hey there guys!
Today I’ve got two posters and a lesson for your eyes and brains. The posters for Macbeth and The Lobster, both to be released later this year, have been designed with careful consideration of space. Macbeth uses the inside of Fassbender as the canvas, whereas The Lobster excels with negative space. Completely opposite yet somewhat identical techniques (if that’s even possible), yet both absolutely animating.

1. Macbeth

© StudioCanal

Everything about Justin Kurzel’s Macbeth is visually stunning. Here is another new poster for the 2015 release, which follows suite from the film’s previous posters by being focused around the captivating characters.
There is an element of simplicity which I love, but the designer has been creative in the use of space to fit in a lot of detail. Everything appears to be strategically placed: the window into Macbeth’s head; Lady Macduff always in the back of his thoughts; the fire and war in his heart creeping its way up towards his mind. It’s strong.

2. The Lobster

© Element Pictures

Negative space is a powerful thing, considering it’s empty space. This is gorgeous.

Are you looking forward to the release of Macbeth? Who is your lobster? Are you a fan of Friends? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
