A Beautiful Planet
Trailer Tuesday

Trailer Tuesday vol. 29: Documentaries galore! + Fan, Finding Dory, and Angry Birds!

This week I’ve been loving the documentaries. Whether it’s about our planet Earth, human disorders, or mysteries to be solved, there is something for all docu-interests. In fact, the documentaries make up half of the trailers in this volume of Trailer Tuesday. This week shall be known as… Half-Docu week! Catchy, right?…

Ehem. The other half of the list consists of a crazy fan in Fan (who could have guessed?), and two big up-coming animations, Finding Dory and The Angry Birds Movie. Let Half-Docu week begin!

1. Fan

In this paradise, Red (Jason Sudeikis, We’re the Millers, Horrible Bosses), a bird with a temper problem, speedy Chuck (Josh Gad), and the volatile Bomb (Danny McBride) have always been outsiders. But when the island is visited by mysterious green piggies, it’s up to these unlikely outcasts to figure out what the pigs are up to.

Beside the body, lies a diary that documents a journey of starvation and the loss of sanity, but told with poignance, beauty, humor, and spirituality. As her story unfolds from different perspectives, including her own, we learn about our systemic failure to protect those who cannot protect themselves.
Who is in it? Lori Singer, Caitlin Murtagh, Lora Goss
Where did I find it? www.traileraddict.com/god-knows-where-i-am/trailer

Immediate thoughts? The new Finding Dory trailer!! I am looking forward to this much more now. Yes, it does look almost exactly the same as Finding Nemo, but who says that’s a bad thing? Finding Nemo was amazing!

6. A Beautiful Planet

Trailer Tuesday

Trailer Tuesday vol. 17: Fish, birds, a bit of horror, and dancing!

In this week’s Trailer Tuesday we look at Finding Dory (of course!), #Horror, Rupert Grint’s new film Moonwalkers, a documentary about dance and a documentary about birds, and more!

1. Finding Dory
When it is released? 29th Jul 2016 (UK), 17th Jun 2016 (USA)
Who is distributing it? Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures (UK and USA)
What is it about? The friendly-but-forgetful blue tang fish reunites with her loved ones, and everyone learns a few things about the true meaning of family along the way.
Who is in it? Ellen DeGeneres, Idris Elba, Dominic West, Willem Dafoe, Diane Keaton, Hayden Rolence
Where did I find it? www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSf-5vbVpAU
What did I think? Of course my first trailer for this week is Finding Dory! I’ve included it more for my excitement for the film itself rather than for the trailer, as I thought this teaser was a bit… flappy. It didn’t make me excited, and it makes it seem like it’s just carrying on from Finding Nemo. I know sometimes this is a good thing, but it was all just a bit confusing. There’s nothing special about it unfortunately. However, I’m optimistic about seeing the full trailer!

2. #Horror
When it is released? 20th Nov 2015 (USA)
Who is distributing it? IFC Midnight (USA)

Who is in it? Emma Adler, Annabelle Dexter-Jones, Jessica Blank, Chloë Sevigny
Where did I find it? www.traileraddict.com/horror-2015/feature-trailer
What did I think? I liked the October-released trailer for #Horror, but there are a lot of haunting visuals in this new trailer, which make it more promising on the creepy side of things.

3. Body

Who is distributing it? Matchbox Films (UK, DVD), Oscilloscope Pictures (USA)
What is it about? A night out turns deadly when three girls break into a seemingly empty mansion.
Who is in it? Helen Rogers, Alexandra Turshen, Lauren Molina
Where did I find it? www.traileraddict.com/body-2015/feature-trailer
What did I think? Not sure about that ending, nor the film itself, but the mystery of the three girl’s plot is something I am intrigued by.

4. Moonwalkers
When it is released? 15th Jan 2016 (USA)
Who is distributing it? Alchemy (USA)
What is it about? A CIA agent and a rock manager team up to help Stanley Kubrick fake the moon landings.

Who is distributing it? The Orchard (worldwide)

Who is in it? Kathryn McCormick, Kayla Sameski, Alyssa Gaines, Montserrat Roberts
Where did I find it? www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi2827530777?ref_=ttvi_vi_imdb_1
What did I think? Yaaaaas Kathryn! If you are a dancer or a dance fan, this you’re gonna like!

6. The Messenger
When it is released? 4th Dec 2015 (USA)
Who is distributing it? Kino Lorber (USA)
What is it about? The Messenger is an artful investigation into the causes of songbird mass depletion and the people working to turn the tide. This visually thrilling film reveals how the issues facing birds also pose daunting implications for our planet.
Who is in it? Unknown
Where did I find it? www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi1501671961?ref_=ttvi_vi_imdb_1
What did I think? And if you’re a fan of birds, then you may be mesmerised by this trailer the same way that I was! It is beautiful. And important.

7. The Finest Hours
When it is released? 29th Jan 2016 (UK and USA)
Who is distributing it? Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures
What is it about? The Coast Guard makes a daring rescue attempt off the coast of Cape Cod after a pair of oil tankers are destroyed during a blizzard in 1952.

What did I think? Ooooo… That sound work at the end… I’ve not been particularly interested in The Finest Hours, but I did enjoy this trailer.

Let me know if I’ve missed your favourite trailer this week, I’d love to see it! 🙂

As always, don’t forget to come back next Tuesday for more trailers! And keep an eye out, I may be putting up something a bit different some time soon… Something that involves all the best trailers in Trailer Tuesday! Wink nudge

Trailer Tuesday

Trailer Tu-thursday, vol. 9: Sssssome sssuper trailers to sssee

Welcome back to Trailer Tu… oh yeah it’s not Tuesday… welcome back to Trailer Tu-thursday! That totally works right?

1. The Jungle Book
When it is released? 15th Apr 2016 (UK and USA)

What is it about? An orphan boy is raised in the jungle with the help of a pack of wolves, a bear, and a black panther.
Who is in it? Scarlett Johansson, Bill Murray, Idris Elba, Ben Kingsley, Lupita Nyong’o
Where did I find it? www.youtube.com/watch?v=owgrkAQ-Log
What did I think? I love the way Scarlett Johansson’s character is a mystery throughout the beginning of this trailer, especially if you know nothing about this version of The Jungle Book. After the reveal, the build just gets more and more intense, closing with the huge hairy hand that remains mysterious at the end. However, I do hope they improve the CGI before it is released as I wasn’t convinced on that part.

2. Room
When it is released? 29th Jan 2016 (UK), 16th Oct 2015 (USA)
Who is distributing it? StudioCanal (UK), A24 (USA)
What is it about? Escaping from the captivity in which they have been held for half a decade, a young woman and her five-year-old son struggle to adjust to the strange, terrifying and wondrous world outside their one-room prison.
Who is in it? Joan Allen, Brie Larson, Jacob Tremblay
Where did I find it? www.traileraddict.com/room-2015/theatrical-trailer
What did I think? I am so in love with this film already. It looks as though the filmmakers have shot Room so that you, the viewer, are part of the journey of discovery just as much as Jack. The trailer doesn’t explain everything, which is perfect.

3. The Hallow
When it is released? 13th Nov 2015 (UK), 6th Nov 2015 (USA, limited)
Who is distributing it? eOne Entertainment (UK), IFC Midnight (USA)

Who is in it? Joseph MawleBojana NovakovicMichael McElhatton
Where did I find it? www.traileraddict.com/the-hallow/trailer
What did I think? This looks like it has some creepy visuals that will haunt you, if you like that kind of thing. If you don’t, there are Irish accents…

Who is in it? Emile Hirsch, Craig Roberts, Richard Harrington
Where did I find it? www.traileraddict.com/just-jim/trailer
What did I think? It’s an intriguing trailer due to its dark tone, but what made me include it in Trailer Tuthursday is the mysterious secret Dean is hiding I want to know what it could be…

5. In the Heart of the Sea
When it is released? 26th Dec 2015 (UK), 11th Dec 2015 (USA)
Who is distributing it? Warner Bros. (UK and USA)

Who is in it? Chris Hemsworth, Cillian Murphy, Brendan Gleeson
Where did I find it? www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRrbLeWoG5g
What did I think? I’m always cautious of films that are set in one limited location as they can get dull quickly, so I’m unsure about this one. I’ve included it for the drama and what could be a stimulating visual style. What do you think of the trailer?

6. Back in Time
When it is released? 21st Oct 2015 (USA, internet)
Who is distributing it? Unknown
What is it about? Cast, crew, and fans explore the classic time-travel trilogy’s resonance throughout our culture 30 years after Marty went Back in Time.

Trailer Tuesday

Trailer Tuesday, vol. 1

Welcome to Trailer Tuesday! and welcome to the first post on Bvrn. My name is Steph, and Trailer Tuesday is essentially the gathering of film (and TV and games) trailers that have been released in the past week. It is a casual, research-based exercise that I used to do during an internship at a trailer house, and one that I miss doing very much, so… voila!
N.B. I always try to get the release date and distributor for the UK, but sometimes that isn’t possible, so these may differ depending on where you are.

Even if the road to awareness well be long and rocky.

What did I think?
It’s not difficult to take a wild guess as to how Jenny’s Wedding will end, and in all honesty the trailer being another almost-give-it-all-away trailer, it’s probably partly to blame. However, I still think this looks like it could be worth a watch.

That’s right! Another foreign film to feast your eyes on. Sometimes, I love the look of lower-budget films over big-budget Hollywood movies (I am, of course, assuming that this has a lower-budget than most Hollywood films anyway). What drew me into this one however, was Xavier Dolan. There is something bewitching about him… I think it’s those eyes… and the floppy hair…

What did I think?
I’ve included this one for the documentary itself more than for the trailer. Although I like that the trailer doesn’t give away any secrets.
N.B. This trailer clearly wasn’t released in the last week, but I’m breaking the rules and including it anyway.

“I will not sacrifice other people’s lives to save my daughter” – quite the opposite of what you’d expect to hear in most films.
