Artwork Wednesday

Artwork Wednesday: Sacrifice, Assassin’s Creed, Slack Bay, X-Men + more!

This week we’ve got a hefty Artwork Wednesday to make up for the lack of Artwork Wednesdays! A big ol’ bunch of posters ranging from heroes to animation to horror to gaming. Starting with one of my favourite posters I’ve seen this year so far.

1. X-Men: Apocalypse
X-Men: Apocalypse

© 20th Century Fox

Just. so. beautiful. Just amazing. Gorgeous. Ugh.

2. Sacrifice

© IFC Midnight

I’m not 100% all in with this poster, but, strangely, it reminds me of a photography project I did at uni…

3. The Family Fang

© Starz Digital Media

The DIY style is great full stop, but of course this style suits The Family Fang perfectly!

4. Slack Bay
Slack Bay

© Memento Films

Because I know nothing about this film, this poster is quite funny 😀 I love the colour palette, the font, the composition, lovely!

5. Assassin’s Creed
Assassin's Creed

© 20th Century Fox

Why was I surprised when I scrolled down to see that everything was upside-down. Ahhh I love it. You can almost see and feel the movement as Fassbender flies overhead.

6. Finding Dory

Ahaha 😀 I just, this is just great.

Ahh how I’ve missed Artwork Wednesday. My apologies for not posting one for a while, look forward to the next one! 🙂

The Space Between Us
Trailer Tuesday

Trailer Tuesday vol. 36: Little Men, Morgan, The Space Between Us + more!

So you wanna hear something really annoying? Suuuuure you doooo! I had prepared last week’s Trailer Tuesday down to collecting the YouTube video links, which is one of the last things I do. It was all ready in a text edit file on my computer. MY COMPUTER!! My computer then proceeded to break, and wouldn’t boot past the logo screen. Le sigh. Consequently, I have included last week’s trailers in this week’s Trailer Tuesday. Voila! Problemo, solvelo!

1. Beauty and the Beast
When it is released? 17th Mar 2017 (UK and USA)
What is it about? An adaptation of the classic fairy-tale about a monstrous prince and a young woman who fall in love.

2. Indignation
When it is released? 4th Jun 2016 (Sundance, UK), 29th Jul 2016 (USA)
What is it about? In 1951, Marcus, a working-class Jewish student from New Jersey, attends a small Ohio college, where he struggles with sexual repression and cultural disaffection, amid the ongoing Korean War.
Immediate thoughts? I love the intrigue. I want to know what happens!

3. Little Men
When it is released? 5th Aug 2016 (USA)
What is it about? A new pair of best friends have their bond tested by their parents’ battle over a dress shop lease.
Immediate thoughts? I don’t know, this seems so nice. I really like the editing, the cards, the music, the story shown, it’s lovely.

4. Ghostbusters
When it is released? 15th Jul 2016 (UK and USA)
What is it about? 30 years after Ghostbusters took the world by storm, the beloved franchise makes its long-awaited return. Director Paul Feig brings his fresh take to the supernatural comedy, joined by some of the funniest actors working today.
Immediate thoughts? OOOOOH I’m loving this!!

5. Personal Shopper
When it is released? 19th Oct 2016 (France)
What is it about? Revolves around a ghost story that takes place in the fashion underworld of Paris.
Immediate thoughts? They say any press is good press, so the fact that Personal Shopper was booed at Cannes has only made me more interested than I would have been.

6. The Witness
When it is released? 3rd Jun 2016 (USA)
What is it about? The name ‘Kitty Genovese’ became synonymous with apathy after news that she was stabbed to death while 38 witnesses did nothing. Fifty years later, her brother uncovers a lie that transformed his life, condemned a city and defined an era.
Immediate thoughts? I’d like to know more about this story, I just hope the film (from a filmmaking point of view) has a conclusive ending, even if Bill doesn’t find one.

7. Sausage Party
When it is released? 2nd Sep 2016 (UK), 12th Aug 2016 (USA)
What is it about? An animated movie about one sausage’s quest to discover the truth about his existence.
Immediate thoughts? It’s still good! …And traumatising.

8. Star Trek: Beyond
When it is released? 22nd Jul 2016 (UK and USA)
What is it about? The USS Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a mysterious new enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test.
Immediate thoughts? It’s Star Trek, come on, how can you not love it (as my sister would say). I love what I’m seeing and hearing! And I love the look of that white-haired woman!

9. The Blackout Experiments
When it is released? 22nd Jul 2016 (USA)
What is it about? This documentary follows a group of people who discover the ultra-scary, psycho-sexual horror experience Blackout, and develop an obsession that hijacks their lives and blurs the line between reality and paranoid fantasy.
Immediate thoughts? Oh. my god. This looks… crazy.

10. Independence Day: Resurgence
When it is released? 23rd Jun 2016 (UK), 24th Jun 2016 (USA)
What is it about? Two decades after the first Independence Day invasion, Earth is faced with a new extra-Solar threat. But will mankind’s new space defenses be enough?
Immediate thoughts? I dislike long trailers. By long I mean anything longer than 2 minutes usually. This extended trailer is over 4 and a half minutes, and I absolutely loved the relaxed, yet still trailer-like feel. Kudos to the trailer editor.

11. Finding Dory
When it is released? 29th Jul 2016 (UK), 17th Jun 2016 (USA)
What is it about? The friendly-but-forgetful blue tang fish reunites with her loved ones, and everyone learns a few things about the real meaning of family along the way.
Immediate thoughts? I wasn’t expecting to feel any different about Finding Dory from this trailer, but it almost had me in tears!

12. Seoul Searching
When it is released? May 2016 (USA)
What is it about? During the 1980’s, the Korean government created a special summer camp for “gyopo” or foreign born teenagers where they could spend their summer in Seoul to learn about their motherland. While the intentions of the program were honorable, the activities of the teens were not. The program was eventually cancelled after a few years because the government simply could not control the youth. Seoul Searching is a teen comedy and coming of age film, based on a true story about one of the summer camps that took place in 1986.
Immediate thoughts? One of Justin Chon’s latest films oooooh

13. Morgan
When it is released? 2nd Sep 2016 (USA)
What is it about? Morgan is about a corporate risk-management consultant who has to decide and determine whether or not to terminate an artificial being’s life that was made in a laboratory environment.
Immediate thoughts? Ya yaya?

14. The Space Between Us
When it is released? 19th Aug 2016 (UK and USA)
What is it about? A young man raised by scientists on Mars returns to Earth to find his father.
Immediate thoughts? I LOVE THIS!! SO MUCH MORE THAN EXPECTED!! Give it a chance, stick it out through the beginning. The concept is genius!

15. The Fundamentals of Caring
When it is released? 16th Jun 2016 (Edinburgh International Film Festival, UK), 24th Jun 2016 (USA)
What is it about? A man suffering an incredible amount of loss enrolls in a class about care-giving that changes his perspective on life.
Immediate thoughts? Yeah, this is kind of promising!

See you next week! 🙂

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
The Movies Tag

The Movies Tag Q31: Films you can’t wait to come out?

QUESTION: Films you can’t wait to come out?
ANSWER: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them & Finding Dory

My choices probably sound really boring and mundane, but they are the honest truth! Not to mention they’re all I can think of right now… I’m sure there’s more but I just can’t think!

If you’ve read any of my blog posts before, picking Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will not come as a surprise to you. I am a huge Harry Potter fan – it is my favourite film franchise – so any addition to that world makes me very giddy. Eddie Redmayne being cast as Newt also helps, as everything he has done recently has shown how diverse an actor he is. I’m really excited to see what kind of character he brings to the world of magic.

Finding Dory is a bit of an iffy one. I’m looking forward to it because I love the Dory character, and I loved Finding Nemo. The posters for Finding Dory are some of my favourite posters this year so far (maybe ever!) but posters give much less away about how good the actual film is going to be. Consequently I’m relying on the trailers, and I haven’t been super impressed by them, so I’m not sure how good the film will actually be. But that hasn’t stopped me from being excited! I am confident that Dory and the other characters will be able to carry the film comically, even if the story turns out to be very similar to Finding Nemo. On that note, what are we expecting?! The new film is called Finding Dory, of course it’s going to have a similar plot to Finding Nemo! With all that in mind, I still can’t wait to see it.

Are you looking forward to Fantastic Beasts and Finding Dory as well? Another one that I was going to mention is Avatar 2, but I know nothing about it! What else are you excited for?

Suicide Squad
Artwork Wednesday

Artwork Wednesday: Adderall Diaries, Finding Dory + Suicide Squad!

Welcome back to another Artwork Wednesday! This week includes an arty Adderall Diaries poster, an example of simplicity done right from Suicide Squad, and another show of consistency from Finding Dory!

1. The Adderall Diaries

There wasn’t a particular element that drew me to this poster for The Adderall Diaries. I love the collage-type style, reminds me of how (I wished) my sketchbooks looked in uni.

2. Suicide Squad

I love simplicity! Killer Croc’s poster caught my eye first. Beaut.

3. Finding Dory

I’ve loved every poster for Finding Dory. But this one… that octopus.

I hope you loved this week’s Artwork Wednesday! Let me know which posters you’ve been loving recently!

A Beautiful Planet
Trailer Tuesday

Trailer Tuesday vol. 29: Documentaries galore! + Fan, Finding Dory, and Angry Birds!

This week I’ve been loving the documentaries. Whether it’s about our planet Earth, human disorders, or mysteries to be solved, there is something for all docu-interests. In fact, the documentaries make up half of the trailers in this volume of Trailer Tuesday. This week shall be known as… Half-Docu week! Catchy, right?…

Ehem. The other half of the list consists of a crazy fan in Fan (who could have guessed?), and two big up-coming animations, Finding Dory and The Angry Birds Movie. Let Half-Docu week begin!

1. Fan
When it is released? 15th Apr 2016 (UK and USA)
Who is distributing it? Yash Raj Films (UK and USA)
What is it about? An Indian superstar becomes an unhealthy obsession for a Delhi-based fan.
Who is in it? Shahrukh Khan, Mariola Jaworska, Joelle Koissi
Where did I find it?
Immediate thoughts? Ignoring the, in places, slightly dodgy fighting, this is something I haven’t seen before, and it took a turn that I was not expecting. I like it!

2. Borderline
When it is released? 25th Feb 2016 (Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, USA)
Who is distributing it? Independent
What is it about? Regina has a Borderline Personality Disorder diagnosis. The first time she tried to kill herself, she was five years old. Now she’s 45 and hell-bent on trying to live – most of the time.
Who is in it? Marsha Linehan, John Gunderson, Antonia New, David Fox, Peter Fonagy
Where did I find it?
Immediate thoughts? That title card was a bit out of place… but interesting!

3. The Angry Birds Movie
When it is released? 13th May 2016 (UK), 20th May 2016 (USA)
Who is distributing it? Sony Pictures (UK and USA)
What is it about? Adaptation of the popular mobile game takes us to an island populated entirely by happy, flightless birds – or almost entirely. In this paradise, Red (Jason Sudeikis, We’re the Millers, Horrible Bosses), a bird with a temper problem, speedy Chuck (Josh Gad), and the volatile Bomb (Danny McBride) have always been outsiders. But when the island is visited by mysterious green piggies, it’s up to these unlikely outcasts to figure out what the pigs are up to.
Who is in it? Peter Dinklage, Jason Sudeikis, Keegan-Michael Key, Bill Hader, Josh Gad
Where did I find it?
Immediate thoughts? Ahhh and in come the flying birds! and it’s funny!

4. God Knows Where I Am
When it is released? 2016 (USA)
Who is distributing it? Independent
What is it about? The body of a homeless woman is found in an abandoned New Hampshire farmhouse. Beside the body, lies a diary that documents a journey of starvation and the loss of sanity, but told with poignance, beauty, humor, and spirituality. For nearly four months, Linda Bishop survived on apples and rain water, waiting for God to save her, during one of the coldest winters on record. As her story unfolds from different perspectives, including her own, we learn about our systemic failure to protect those who cannot protect themselves.
Who is in it? Lori Singer, Caitlin Murtagh, Lora Goss
Where did I find it?
Immediate thoughts? I was expecting something like God’s Not Dead 2, but got something compelling instead. This woman is so intriguing.

5. Finding Dory
When it is released? 29th Jul 2016 (UK), 17th Jun 2016 (USA)
Who is distributing it? Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures (UK and USA)
What is it about? The friendly-but-forgetful blue tang fish reunites with her loved ones, and everyone learns a few things about the true meaning of family along the way.
Who is in it? Ellen DeGeneres, Idris Elba, Dominic West, Willem Dafoe, Diane Keaton, Hayden Rolence
Where did I find it?
Immediate thoughts? The new Finding Dory trailer!! I am looking forward to this much more now. Yes, it does look almost exactly the same as Finding Nemo, but who says that’s a bad thing? Finding Nemo was amazing!

6. A Beautiful Planet
When it is released? 29th Apr 2016 (USA)
Who is distributing it? Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures (USA)
What is it about? An exploration of Earth and beyond as seen from outer space.
Who is in it? Jennifer Lawrence
Where did I find it?
Immediate thoughts? Space!! Jennifer Lawrence! I support anything that tries to expose the damage humans are doing to our beautiful planet.

Half-Docu week is done! Let me know which trailer stole your mind this week 🙂

Finding Dory

Artwork Wednesday: Finding Dory, Equals + Everything Before Us

Ooooo I’m excited about this week’s Artwork Wednesday.

It’s a mixture of films this week, from big name animation with Finding Dory, to independent romance with Everything Before Us… And Equals in between!

3. Everything Before Us
Everything Before Us

© Wong Fu Productions

Apologies for the small image, but I couldn’t find a larger size. filmmakers and YouTubers (and YouTube filmmakers!) Wong Fu Productions’ first feature film was added to iTunes a few days ago, with some special extra features.

I’ve been following Wong Fu for a while now. They are very special, and they put a lot of time and dedication into every. single. thing. they make. They are as much perfectionists with their short films on YT as they are with their feature film, Everything Before Us.

I think this new iTunes poster represents their style perfectly. It is simple, clean, and clever. It’s so difficult to sum up a film in one image, but I think this poster does a pretty darn good job of it.

I highly recommend you check the film out!

I hope you enjoyed this week’s Artwork Wednesday, lovely!

Finding Dory
Artwork Wednesday

Artwork Wednesday: Finding Dory, Zoolander 2, Ice Age

We’re back this week for Artwork Wednesday with two of the funniest film posters from the past week, and a current hot topic – Finding Dory! Which one will get the most giggles? Check them out below!

1. Finding Dory

© Disney Pixar

I noticed this poster during a IMDb browse, as you do. It’s everything I love in a poster! Simple and colourful, but not too colourful. Just the right amount of colourful. And of course, it helps that I am already excited for the film!

2. Zoolander 2

© Paramount Pictures

Long time no Z 😀 This poster is doing everything right.

3. Cosmic Scrat-tastrophe

© 20th Century Fox

Apparently I’m loving the make-fun posters this week! The new Cosmic Scrat-tastrophe poster is a parody of the poster for The Martian, and it does it just as well.

Which poster made you laugh the most the week? For me it was the Zoolander 2 poster! Let me know yours in the comments below 🙂
