The Pass
Artwork Wednesday

Artwork Wednesday: Dreamland, The Ivory Game, Hello Destroyer + more!

And we’re back! It was the first Trailer Tuesday in around two months yesterday, and I have certainly missed it. Shame I can’t say the same about Artwork Wednesday… nahhh I’m only joking, Artwork Wednesday is one of my favourite posts to make! Speaking of favourites, here’s a few of my favourite posters from the months I’ve missed.

1. Dreamland

© FilmBuff / Orion Pictures

The style of this poster really suits Dreamland. I love the colours and it stands out amongst the crowd. It’s just beautiful!

2. The Pass
The Pass

© Lionsgate

The imagery and the simplicity of this poster for The Pass is delicate, and very intriguing. Plus, I love the detail of the border… just such a calm yet intense piece of art.

3. The Ivory Game
The Ivory Game

© Netflix

The Ivory Game is an important documentary about incredibly empathetic animals, whose morals are not mirrored by some terrible humans. It needs a striking poster, and this altered and impactful imagery works well.

4. Free Fire
Free Fire

© StudioCanal / A24

The palette of this Free Fire poster is gorgeous. Combined with the playfulness of the font and design, it makes for a rather enticing advertisement.

5. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

© Warner Bros.

6. Hello Destroyer
Hello Destroyer

© Northern Banner Releasing

Negative space done well is, as you may be well aware, a firm favourite of mine. Along with the title and the pose of the man, I’d like to know what’s going on here…

I hope you enjoyed this return to Artwork Wednesday! 🙂

Artwork Wednesday

Artwork Wednesday: Table 19, The Blackcoat’s Daughter, Fantastic Beasts + more!

Yay for the return of Artwork Wednesday! We’ve a nice round number of posters today with a bold six. There’s probably almost every colour under the sun, thanks to the Joker, and two stunning examples showing how greyscale is best done elegantly. Plus, a few other bright bits in between.

1. The Girl on the Train

© Universal Pictures/eOne Entertainment

I first saw the middle section of the poster before I saw the rest of it. That shape is everything that captured me.

2. Table 19

© Fox Searchlight Pictures/20th Century Fox

My first thought was that someone has been very sneaky and cheeky with that fork middle finger… Otherwise, this is one slick poster!

3. The Blackcoat’s Daughter

© A24

I love that Emma has two different poses for each side, that the top of the tallest building meets her eyes, and the use of the buildings to connect the faces.

4. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

© Warner Bros.

I love the detail and structure to this poster. And of course the fact that it’s FANTASTIC BEASTS!! I risked it by looking at this poster, cause I’m steering clear of anything that could involve spoilers!

5. Star Trek Beyond

© Paramount Pictures

There is a definite theme running through all the Beyond posters, which I love, but this one is different (of course!). It’s such a unique angle, I love, love what’s been done with the typography, and the colours are so stand-out.

6. Suicide Squad

© Warner Bros.

The bold, brashness is hard to ignore. I was drawn to this one the most out of the bunch, I think it was the Ha Ha’s and the eyeball… probably! 😉

Quick! One to six, which one would you pick if you had to put one up on your wall right now?

The Lego Batman Movie
Trailer Tuesday

Trailer Tuesday vol. 40: July favourites!

Before I’ve even compiled this Trailer Tuesday, I know it’s going to be a big one. I’m rounding up the best of the last month and a half of trailers (of which the films haven’t already been released), oh man, wish me luck.

1. American Pastoral
When it is released? 11th Nov 2016 (UK), 28th Oct 2016 (USA)

What is it about? Arthur Bishop thought he had put his murderous past behind him when his most formidable foe kidnaps the love of his life. Now he is forced to travel the globe to complete three impossible assassinations, and do what he does best, make them look like accidents.
Immediate thoughts? My second thought was a lot more positive than my first. The sequel to The Mechanic looks like a slightly funny, typical, yet innovative action thriller. And Tommy Lee Jones of course makes me want to see it much more!

3. Mirzya
When it is released? 7th Oct 2016 (USA)
What is it about? The film is based on the folklore Mirza-Sahiban, explores why Sahiban betrayed Mirza and then killed herself.
Immediate thoughts? I’ve got no idea what’s going on in this trailer but I’m having the same thoughts as I did with the teaser: Mirzya is such a stunning looking film. If you’ve seen the teaser and enjoyed it, make sure you watch this trailer as there’s lots more oozy footage!

What is it about? The story of Chesley Sullenberger, who became a hero after gliding his plane along the water in the Hudson River, saving all of the airplane flights 155 crew and passengers.
Immediate thoughts? Yeah, this could definitely be interesting. I had no idea anything was going on like that.

6. Voyage of Time
When it is released? 7th Oct 2016 (USA)
What is it about? An examination of the birth and death of the known universe.
Immediate thoughts? This is gonna be one breath-taking film.

What is it about? Nate Foster (Daniel Radcliffe), a young, idealistic FBI agent, goes undercover to take down a radical white supremacy terrorist group. The bright up-and-coming analyst must confront the challenge of sticking to a new identity while maintaining his real principles as he navigates the dangerous underworld of white supremacy. Inspired by real events, IMPERIUM stars Daniel Radcliffe, Toni Collette, Tracy Letts, with Nestor Carbonell, Burn Gorman and Sam Trammell.
Immediate thoughts? We finally get to see why Dan went bald (pretty much)! I’m really excited to see his performance in this. The end of the trailer was a bit of an odd choice however…

8. Edge of Winter
When it is released? 2nd Aug 2016 (USA)
What is it about? When two brothers are stranded by a brutal winter storm with an unpredictable father they barely know, the boys begin to suspect their supposed protector may be their biggest threat.
Immediate thoughts? I’m not completely sold on Edge of Winter, but it reminds me of The Visit but without the humour. If it is anything like The Visit then it’s definitely one to watch!

9. Table 19 *FAV!!
When it is released? 20th Jan 2017 (UK and USA)

When it is released? 16th Dec 2016 (UK and USA)
What is it about? Rebels set out on a mission to steal the plans for the Death Star.

14. Before I Wake
When it is released? 9th Sep 2016 (USA)
What is it about? A young couple adopt an orphaned child whose dreams – and nightmares – manifest physically as he sleeps.
Immediate thoughts? This is a cool idea I’ve not seen before… but I’d like it to be less horror-ish. I was much more excited about it at the beginning, and I lost interest towards to end.

15. Justice League
When it is released? 17th Nov 2017 (UK and USA)
What is it about? Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy.
Immediate thoughts? I haven’t been following the Batman vs Superman stuff, but I’m excited to see Aquaman and The Flash!

When it is released? 18th Nov 2016 (UK and USA)

17. King Arthur: Legend of the Sword
When it is released? 24th Mar 2017 (UK and USA)

Immediate thoughts? I like this idea! And the fact that there is a Potterhead involved!

21. Split
When it is released? 20th Jan 2017 (UK and USA)
What is it about? Kevin, a man with at least 23 different personalities, is compelled to abduct three teenage girls. As they are held captive, a final personality – “The Beast” – begins to materialize.
Immediate thoughts? I loved The Visit, so I’m pretty keen to see more from M. Night Shyamalan. James McAvoy has a challenging role, and it looks like he’s gonna make it look easy peasy.

22. Chicken People
When it is released? 13th Mar 2016 (USA)
What is it about? Chicken People is a funny and uplifting look at the world of show chickens and the people who love them. Starting at the largest national poultry competition, likened to the Westminster Dog Show for chickens, Chicken People follows three top competitors over the course of a year as they grapple with life’s challenges while vying to win the next year’s crown. Both humorous and heartfelt, Chicken People is an unforgettable celebration of the human spirit.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
The Movies Tag

The Movies Tag Q31: Films you can’t wait to come out?

QUESTION: Films you can’t wait to come out?
ANSWER: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them & Finding Dory

My choices probably sound really boring and mundane, but they are the honest truth! Not to mention they’re all I can think of right now… I’m sure there’s more but I just can’t think!

If you’ve read any of my blog posts before, picking Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will not come as a surprise to you. I am a huge Harry Potter fan – it is my favourite film franchise – so any addition to that world makes me very giddy. Eddie Redmayne being cast as Newt also helps, as everything he has done recently has shown how diverse an actor he is. I’m really excited to see what kind of character he brings to the world of magic.

Finding Dory is a bit of an iffy one. I’m looking forward to it because I love the Dory character, and I loved Finding Nemo. The posters for Finding Dory are some of my favourite posters this year so far (maybe ever!) but posters give much less away about how good the actual film is going to be. Consequently I’m relying on the trailers, and I haven’t been super impressed by them, so I’m not sure how good the film will actually be. But that hasn’t stopped me from being excited! I am confident that Dory and the other characters will be able to carry the film comically, even if the story turns out to be very similar to Finding Nemo. On that note, what are we expecting?! The new film is called Finding Dory, of course it’s going to have a similar plot to Finding Nemo! With all that in mind, I still can’t wait to see it.

Are you looking forward to Fantastic Beasts and Finding Dory as well? Another one that I was going to mention is Avatar 2, but I know nothing about it! What else are you excited for?

Artwork Wednesday

Artwork Wednesday: Ghostbusters, Fantastic Beats, High Rise + more!

A beautiful New Year to you! I know I’m late to say it and I’m sick of hearing the ‘Happy New Year’ phrase by this point, but I couldn’t not say something in my first post of the year could I?!

Yes, you may have noticed there was no Movies Tag or Trailer Tuesday post this week. Not a great start to my blogging year is it? I was planning on skipping over the truth about the monstrosity that is missing my two main blog posts for the week, by teasing you with the new stuff I’ve got coming, but maybe it’s best to be honest and say: I was just too tired to write them.

Now that’s out of the way, for this week’s Artwork Wednesday I’ve got more posters than usual, and as I thought it would be a nice way to ease you into the new year, I’m releasing you from my normal rambling. Let’s get down to the good stuff… What’s the good stuff? The visuals of course!
