Trolls
Trailer Tuesday

Trailer Tuesday vol. 46: Annabelle 2, Billie Joe Armstrong, Flock of Dudes + more!

Two films that did well at the box office return this week in the form of their sequels: Fifty Shades Darker and Annabelle 2. Clearly two quite different films but both with a sense of darkness (no, I’m not just talking about fifty shades getting darker!). The word dark has lost all meaning. Let’s move on!

1. Fifty Shades Darker
When it is released? 10th Feb 2017 (UK and USA)
What is it about? While Christian wrestles with his inner demons, Anastasia must confront the anger and envy of the women who came before her.
Immediate thoughts? I wonder if this will have more substance than the first one seemed to have.. (sorry for judging without seeing but..)

2. Trolls
When it is released? 21st Oct 2016 (UK), 4th Nov 2016 (USA)
What is it about? From the creators of Shrek comes the most smart, funny, irreverent animated comedy of the year, DreamWorks’ Trolls. This holiday season, enter a colorful, wondrous world populated by hilariously unforgettable characters and discover the story of the overly optimistic Trolls, with a constant song on their lips, and the comically pessimistic Bergens, who are only happy when they have trolls in their stomach. Featuring original music from Justin Timberlake, and soon-to-be classic mash-ups of songs from other popular artists, the film stars the voice talents of Anna Kendrick, Justin Timberlake, Russell Brand, James Corden, Kunal Nayyar, Ron Funches, Icona Pop, Gwen Stefani, and many more. DreamWorks’ TROLLS is a fresh, broad comedy filled with music, heart and hair-raising adventures. In November of 2016, nothing can prepare you for our new Troll world.
Immediate thoughts? Ouch! My emotions ;(

3. Annabelle 2
When it is released? 26th May 2017 (UK), 19th May 2017 (USA)
What is it about? Several years after the tragic death of their little girl, a dollmaker and his wife welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home, soon becoming the target of the dollmaker’s possessed creation, Annabelle.
Immediate thoughts? oooooowwwww. I haven’t seen the first one, but of course this looks creepy!

4. The Caretaker
When it is released? 30th Sep 2016 (USA)
What is it about? A young woman returns home to care for her gravely ill grandmother, only to begin sleepwalking and envisioning spirits.
Immediate thoughts? WHY, WHY WOULD YOU PLAY A STUPID GAME IN THE MIDDLE OF A HORROR FILM?!

5. Christine
When it is released? 14th Oct 2016 (USA)
What is it about? The story of 1970s TV reporter Christine Chubbuck.
Immediate thoughts? Things just got interesting.

6. Ordinary World
When it is released? 14th Oct 2016 (USA)
What is it about? An aging punk rocker copes with life after rock.
Immediate thoughts? Erm, Billie Joe Armstrong!!

7. Nocturnal Animals
When it is released? 4th Nov 2016 (UK), 9th Dec 2016 (USA)
What is it about? An art gallery owner is haunted by her ex-husband’s novel, a violent thriller she interprets as a veiled threat and a symbolic revenge tale.
Immediate thoughts? Myyyyystery! Also I’m totally nocturnal soo..

8. Flock of Dudes
When it is released? 30th Sep 2016 (USA)
What is it about? A 30-something year old decides to “break up” with his best buds in order to finally grow up.
Immediate thoughts? Heh, I like the idea of a break-up film between friends, in the style of a couple!

9. Harry and Snowman
When it is released? 30th Sep 2016 (USA)
What is it about? Dutch immigrant, Harry deLeyer, journeyed to the United States after World War II and developed a transformative relationship with a broken down Amish plow horse he rescued off a slaughter truck bound for the glue factory. Harry paid eighty dollars for the horse and named him Snowman. In less than two years, Harry & Snowman went on to win the triple crown of show jumping, beating the nations blue bloods and they became famous and traveled around the world together. Their chance meeting at a Pennsylvania horse auction saved them both and crafted a friendship that lasted a lifetime. Eighty-six year old Harry tells their Cinderella love story firsthand, as he continues to train on today’s show jumping circuit.
Immediate thoughts? While I don’t necessarily agree with show jumping or horse racing, the connection between animals and humans always gets me, and Harry and Snowman seems to be no exception!

What did you think of the trailers this week? Anything take your fancy?

Artwork Wednesday: Collateral Beauty, Free Fire + Trolls

This week’s Artwork Wednesday includes one of my favourite posters of this year, a poster for Free Fire, as well as the first poster which I found had too much negative space! What! I know! What is happening?!

1. Collateral Beauty
Collateral Beauty

I’m attracted to the simplicity, as always, but I’m not 100% sure about the negative space (that’s a first for me!). Nevertheless, I’ve included this one because the colour and light is so soft, it really suits the message of the film (make sure you check out the trailer in this week’s Trailer Tuesday if you haven’t seen it!).

2. Free Fire

I just, suddenly love this poster. I was looking at it for just a few seconds, and then it almost physically hit me, that I love it. I felt the love. How cheesy does that sound? BUT IT’S TRUE! I love the arms, the font, and the plain white background. But the arms, man, they are just genius.

3. Trolls

The structure pleases me greatly. I love, love the colours, I think they have been really perfected, and I love the composition of each troll image.

Do you love the Free Fire poster as much as I do? Or do the Trolls or Collateral Beauty posters take your fancy?

The Movies Tag Q42: Film that started your interest in film?

QUESTION: Film that started your interest in film?
ANSWER: Aladdin

My first thought is that it has got to be an old Disney film, as that would have probably been the first film I ever watched. There was never a moment where I ‘became’ interested in film, it has just always been there since I became old enough to remember watching films.

As for which Disney film, it’s tough to recall. I may have to consult my sister…

So I spoke to my sister, and we’ve narrowed it down to the following: Aladdin, Mary Poppins, The Snowman, and Snow White. What’s that I hear you say? They aren’t all Disney films? No they’re not!

I’m going to go with Aladdin, cause it would be very difficult to find out which film it is for sure. So yeah, there’s no interesting story behind the beginning of my love for film, I just watched Aladdin when I was little, and loved it.

Do you remember what got your interest in film started? Ooh and what was the first film you ever watched?

The Movies Tag Q39: Favourite movie location/setting?

QUESTION: Favourite movie location/setting?
ANSWER: Pocahontas

I’m pretty sure I’ve answered another Movies Tag question with Pocahontas before, but I don’t care! The beauty of the location in Pocahontas is undeniable!

Due to the film being themed around the land and nature, the idea of using the natural surroundings comes naturally. Nature, you know? I love trees and water, especially, of which there is plenty in Pocahontas. Nature is so important in the film it even becomes one of the supporting characters, in the form of Grandmother Willow. And of course, Disney has a way with colours like no other, which enhances the magnificence of every scene. Just Google something like ‘Pocahontas scene’ and you’ll see what I mean. Rhymes.

A quick note about Trailer Tuesday for those who are wondering: it will be back! It’s just been a crazy time for me recently so I am going to have to do a monthly round up 🙂

I refuse to believe anyone can dislike the Pocahontas setting. So instead my question for you is this: Is there an even greater movie location/setting than Pocahontas?

Les Innocentes
Artwork Wednesday

Artwork Wednesday: Bourne, Les Innocentes + Phantom Boy!

A poster I love for a film I don’t want to see, pregnant French nuns in the snow, and a phantom boy whose name is Leo. What an odd collection of films and posters we have for this week’s Artwork Wednesday. I like it.

1. Jason Bourne

I saw the landscape version of this poster at Odeon the other day, and my god. It physically drew me towards it. That light is perfect.

2. Les Innocentes (The Innocents)
Les Innocentes

© Music Box Films

It’s the shape of the woman that gets me. The lines of the trees. The font and positioning of the text is (almost, if I’m being picky) perfect to me.

3. Phantom Boy

The trailer for Phantom Boy almost made this week’s Trailer Tuesday, but not quite. I still like the look of the film, and this poster made me smile. The colours work well together, and his cheeky face is the smile-maker.

Which is your favourite poster this week? 🙂

The Movies Tag Q32: Films you want to see but never got round to watching?

QUESTION: Films you want to see but never got round to watching?
ANSWER: TOO MANY!

There are so many films I still haven’t got round to watching, so I thought I’d pick a few main ones from my watchlist on IMDB:

1. Ratatouille

When this came out, it shot straight over my head. Since a few years after its release, whenever it would come up in conversation everyone would say that it’s really good!

2. Now You See Me

I remember being really interested in the trailers around the time of its release, but I wasn’t compelled enough to go to the cinema. I still really want to watch it, especially after seeing how good Now You See Me 2 looks.

3. Mary and Max

Mary and Max was recommended to me by my sister, so in ways it is top of my priority list. When she recommends a film, you know it’s gonna be good. This is apparently sad, but good.

4. Her

The only thing I have ever seen of this film is the poster. That’s it. No trailers, no clips, nothing (I haven’t even watched the trailer I’ve placed just above this text). I don’t want to know anything, until I’ve seen the film of course. The poster was that good.

5. Oculus

This made my watchlist during uni when I was doing some research for a project involving eyes and seeing. I don’t think it was out at the time, which is why I haven’t watched it yet, as I finished the project before its release, but it still looks like a horrific horror (it looks good!).

6. Boyhood

I was intrigued by the filming technique adopted by Boyhood filmmakers. I still am!

7. Horns

I was lucky enough to sit in on the edit of some of the trailers for Horns, and that’s when I got interested in it. What was weird however, was that on the date of its release, my strong desire turned into ‘I’ll watch it one day.’

8. Birdman

Like Her, I know nothing about this film, but unlike Her, I haven’t seen the poster, I’ve literally seen nothing. I don’t know why I want to see it if I’m honest!

9. Kingsman: The Secret Service

Part of Kingsman: The Secret Service was filmed just down the road from my house. In fact, it was apparently the coolest part of the film!

But, just like all the rest of the films on this list, something has stopped me from seeing Kingsman, and, as is for the rest of the list as well, that something is procrastination and lack of overwhelming compulsion. But I will, I will!

If you’ve seen any of the films on my list, what did you think of them? No spoilers of course! 😉

Trailer Tuesday vol. 29: Documentaries galore! + Fan, Finding Dory, and Angry Birds!

This week I’ve been loving the documentaries. Whether it’s about our planet Earth, human disorders, or mysteries to be solved, there is something for all docu-interests. In fact, the documentaries make up half of the trailers in this volume of Trailer Tuesday. This week shall be known as… Half-Docu week! Catchy, right?…

Ehem. The other half of the list consists of a crazy fan in Fan (who could have guessed?), and two big up-coming animations, Finding Dory and The Angry Birds Movie. Let Half-Docu week begin!

In this paradise, Red (Jason Sudeikis, We’re the Millers, Horrible Bosses), a bird with a temper problem, speedy Chuck (Josh Gad), and the volatile Bomb (Danny McBride) have always been outsiders. But when the island is visited by mysterious green piggies, it’s up to these unlikely outcasts to figure out what the pigs are up to.
Who is in it? Peter Dinklage, Jason Sudeikis, Keegan-Michael Key, Bill Hader, Josh Gad

4. God Knows Where I Am
When it is released? 2016 (USA)
Who is distributing it? Independent
What is it about? The body of a homeless woman is found in an abandoned New Hampshire farmhouse. Beside the body, lies a diary that documents a journey of starvation and the loss of sanity, but told with poignance, beauty, humor, and spirituality. For nearly four months, Linda Bishop survived on apples and rain water, waiting for God to save her, during one of the coldest winters on record. As her story unfolds from different perspectives, including her own, we learn about our systemic failure to protect those who cannot protect themselves.
Who is in it? Lori Singer, Caitlin Murtagh, Lora Goss
Where did I find it? www.traileraddict.com/god-knows-where-i-am/trailer
Immediate thoughts? I was expecting something like God’s Not Dead 2, but got something compelling instead. This woman is so intriguing.

Where did I find it? www.youtube.com/watch?v=oP0WR2Ql9yI
Immediate thoughts? The new Finding Dory trailer!! I am looking forward to this much more now. Yes, it does look almost exactly the same as Finding Nemo, but who says that’s a bad thing? Finding Nemo was amazing!

6. A Beautiful Planet
When it is released? 29th Apr 2016 (USA)
Who is distributing it? Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures (USA)
What is it about? An exploration of Earth and beyond as seen from outer space.
