The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
The Movies Tag

The Movies Tag Q46 + Q47: Most annoying actresses + Movies you love that everyone hates?

QUESTION: Most annoying actresses?

I didn’t want to answer this so much that I took a two month break from blogging. Wow. I just can’t think of any actresses I find annoying. If I do, I’m sure I’ll let you know… For now, let’s combine this with the next question, shall we?

QUESTION: Movies you love that everyone hates?
ANSWER: Maybe The Hobbit? The Visit, The Duff, The House Bunny, Wild Child…

I don’t think any of the films I’ve mentioned in my answer are universally hated, really, but for most of them I’m going by iMDB ratings, as I don’t think there are any films I love that everyone else hates!

The Hobbit is my main answer though, because I seem to love The Hobbit films a lot more than most other Middle-Earth fans. Whenever I hear anyone talk about the trilogy, their opinion is usually that there shouldn’t have been three films, and that each film drags. I disagree completely.

I used to love The Hobbit films more than the Lord of the Rings films (now they’re pretty much equal). I think this is because, before I saw The Hobbit, I wasn’t as big of a fan of LOTR as I am now that I’ve seen The Hobbit, if that makes ANY SENSE AT ALL?!

Don’t get me wrong, I liked LOTR before The Hobbit, but for some reason I fell in love with The Hobbit, then fell in love with LOTR ten-times over how much I loved it before.

As for the rest of the films – The Visit and the chick flicks – they’re all underrated (in terms of their iMDB ratings at least) and people need to open their eyes to their glory!

I forgot how difficult it is to write these posts sometimes. If you’ve actually read this entire post, well done. If you didn’t, I don’t blame you 😀

The Pass
Artwork Wednesday

Artwork Wednesday: Dreamland, The Ivory Game, Hello Destroyer + more!

And we’re back! It was the first Trailer Tuesday in around two months yesterday, and I have certainly missed it. Shame I can’t say the same about Artwork Wednesday… nahhh I’m only joking, Artwork Wednesday is one of my favourite posts to make! Speaking of favourites, here’s a few of my favourite posters from the months I’ve missed.

1. Dreamland

© FilmBuff / Orion Pictures

The style of this poster really suits Dreamland. I love the colours and it stands out amongst the crowd. It’s just beautiful!

2. The Pass
The Pass

© Lionsgate

The imagery and the simplicity of this poster for The Pass is delicate, and very intriguing. Plus, I love the detail of the border… just such a calm yet intense piece of art.

3. The Ivory Game
The Ivory Game

© Netflix

The Ivory Game is an important documentary about incredibly empathetic animals, whose morals are not mirrored by some terrible humans. It needs a striking poster, and this altered and impactful imagery works well.

4. Free Fire
Free Fire

© StudioCanal / A24

The palette of this Free Fire poster is gorgeous. Combined with the playfulness of the font and design, it makes for a rather enticing advertisement.

5. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

6. Hello Destroyer
Hello Destroyer

© Northern Banner Releasing

Negative space done well is, as you may be well aware, a firm favourite of mine. Along with the title and the pose of the man, I’d like to know what’s going on here…

I hope you enjoyed this return to Artwork Wednesday! 🙂

Soldier Bee
Artwork Wednesday

Artwork Wednesday: Amanda Knox and Soldier Bee

Another strong Artwork Wednesday this week, with a favourite poster of mine I’ve been meaning to include for weeks, probably months, and a poster for the Netflix documentary Amanda Knox, bringing imagery with a challenging stance.

1. Amanda Knox
Amanda Knox

© Netflix

I just, love the tightness. It’s an odd thing to like, but the close crop brings intensity and draws you to study every detail of the image, analysing the person you see, which, if I’m not mistaken, it a good representation for the documentary itself.

2. Soldier Bee
Soldier Bee

© Sky Blue Films

I saw this poster such a long time ago now it seems, but I just keep forgetting to include it in an Artwork Wednesday! It has such delicacy and elegance, in the art style, the colours, and even the tiny labels, which are such a simple and enticing touch. It really intrigues me.

Thank you for reading 🙂

Trailer Tuesday

Trailer Tuesday vol. 46: Annabelle 2, Billie Joe Armstrong, Flock of Dudes + more!

Two films that did well at the box office return this week in the form of their sequels: Fifty Shades Darker and Annabelle 2. Clearly two quite different films but both with a sense of darkness (no, I’m not just talking about fifty shades getting darker!). The word dark has lost all meaning. Let’s move on!

Featuring original music from Justin Timberlake, and soon-to-be classic mash-ups of songs from other popular artists, the film stars the voice talents of Anna Kendrick, Justin Timberlake, Russell Brand, James Corden, Kunal Nayyar, Ron Funches, Icona Pop, Gwen Stefani, and many more. DreamWorks’ TROLLS is a fresh, broad comedy filled with music, heart and hair-raising adventures. In November of 2016, nothing can prepare you for our new Troll world.
